Highlight Reel Privacy Policy
Effective date: October 20, 2026
This policy describes how Highlight Reel handles information when you use the macOS and iOS apps. Highlight Reel is published by Ammar Keshodia ("I", "me", or "the publisher").
Information the app handles
Your library and bookmarks
The app stores the movie and TV information you choose to add, including titles, release years, provider identifiers, Plex references, bookmark timestamps, notes, tags, and collections. It also stores app preferences and may cache artwork or images used by the app. This information is stored on your device in the app's local storage. The app does not send your library or bookmarks to the publisher.
Plex connection
If you connect Plex, the app uses Plex's sign-in and server APIs to authenticate your account, find your servers and media, and provide playback and related features. Your Plex authentication token is stored in the Apple Keychain. Requests go to Plex and, where applicable, the Plex Media Server you select. The publisher does not receive your Plex password, token, library, or viewing activity.
When you use playback, the app sends the selected media request to your chosen Plex server. When you use subtitle search, the app reads subtitle files from your selected Plex media source or a subtitle file you selected. Network subtitle requests go to the host serving that subtitle. The app does not send subtitle contents to the publisher.
Purchases
Purchases and subscriptions are processed by Apple through the App Store and StoreKit. The app does not receive or store your payment card details. Apple provides purchase entitlement information to the app so it can unlock features. Apple handles billing, renewals, cancellations, refunds, and payment records under Apple's own terms and privacy policy.
Diagnostics and analytics
The public macOS and iOS apps do not send analytics, advertising identifiers, or crash reports to the publisher. Diagnostic logs used in development or testing are stored locally. If you choose to contact the publisher and include diagnostic information, the information you send will be handled as described under Contact.
Sharing, export, and iCloud
The app has no publisher-operated account or cloud service. You can choose to export library or bookmark data, share timestamp links or bookmark data, or export video clips. Exported or shared files may contain titles, identifiers, timestamps, notes, tags, collection information, and media you choose to share. You choose where to save or whom to send these files or links to; handle them as private information. Saving a clip to Photos requires your permission.
iCloud library sync is enabled by default and can be turned off in Settings. When enabled and signed in to iCloud, the app syncs highlights, collections, library metadata, and reusable highlight thumbnails through your private iCloud database. Source video files remain on your Plex server. Clips you explicitly export are saved to your chosen destination and are not included in library sync.
Retention and deletion
Library data, preferences, caches, and connection credentials are stored locally, with credentials protected by Keychain. Use the library and Plex controls available in your version of the app to manage your data and connection. Removing the app or local data does not necessarily remove Keychain credentials, exported files, shared copies, or data already stored in iCloud. Manage iCloud storage through your Apple account settings and delete exported files or shared copies separately where you control them. Deleting library items while sync is enabled may synchronize those deletions to your other connected devices.
If you email the publisher, the email and any attachments will be retained as needed to respond and keep an appropriate support record, then deleted when no longer needed, unless retention is required by law.
Security
The app stores the Plex token in Apple Keychain and protects local app data using operating-system file protections. No storage or transmission method is perfectly secure, so keep exported files private and secure your device and Apple account.
Children's privacy
Highlight Reel is a general-purpose media utility and is not directed to children. The publisher does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to this policy
This policy may be updated if the app's features or data practices change. The effective date above indicates when this version was last updated. A revised policy will be made available at the publisher's privacy policy URL.
